Glenn was born in 1962 near Vancouver, and continues to live on the
lower mainland with his family. He was an avid mountaineer and rock
climber for many years, scaling many of the local peaks. Though he did
not become a professional artist until later in life, he spent many
hours sketching the forests, ridges, rock walls, glaciers and summits he
experienced. His father, a draughtsman and artist, gave Glenn important
early artistic guidance. Glenn later honed his skills studying under
the Polish master Agata Teodorowicz for two years.
“It is the joy and mystery I find in the life that I love communicating
in art. I don’t tend to refer to reality too much when developing a
piece but rather draw on my own memories and recollections when choosing
my subject matter and composing my paintings. This way I tend to
eliminate the superfluous, focusing more on those elements that made the
memory such a fond one in the first place. While emotion and whim play
a large role in creating a piece; lighting, perspective and colour are
part of an extensive preplanning stage all of which assist in
communicating that sense of joy or mystery in the viewer”
