Kristofir Dean is a
Vancouver-based painter who holds a BFA from the Ontario College of Art
& Design (2008) in Toronto. His work is about colour. Kristofir
writes, "In my works, I invite colours to socialize in unexpected ways,
evoking the glorious, the sublime, and the resplendent. A colour that
looks cold on its own is reborn as something altogether different when
summoned into a vibrant new context." His current series of bold,
abstract paintings evoke the colour swatches of different neighbourhoods
and sites in Vancouver such as the vibrant gardens of the West End, the
pastels of Kitsilano and Point Grey, the earth tones of Stanley Park, and
the buzzing LED and neon of the Summer Night Market in Richmond.
