Vancouver based artist, Maria Entis was born in
Yokohama, Japan and moved to San Francisco at the age of ten. After
attending the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, she worked as
a graphic designer in various traditional and electronic media. Her work
for clients such as pioneering animation studio Pacific Data Images (now
DreamWorks Animation), Sanrio and KRON-TV earned her many awards,
including an Emmy (for outstanding achievement in graphic design).
In 1993, Entis returned to her roots as a fine
artist. Her work combines the refined design sensibilities of her native
Japan with the lively, colorful exuberance she developed during her
years as a designer and illustrator. Her work captures energy –
channeling a spontaneous, organic even playful exploration of paint and
texture into a well- ordered, balanced, contemplative whole.
She has exhibited in Los Angeles, the San Francisco
Bay Area and Vancouver. Entis’ works are in private and corporate
collections in the USA, Canada and the UK
